Load Holding Air Brake Equipped

These winches have an air brake unit equipped. The air brake offers 3 benefits to a conventional friction brake.

1. No run on - The brake unit is mounted in between the motor and the gear set. The brake instantly stops the motor from spinning when you let go of the power in or power out switch. This applies to even the very fast winches. This allows much safer and precise winching.

2. Load holding brake. Since this brake is holding the motor shaft, it is holding the load thru the gear sets which multiplies the force. Also, it can be tuned to the weight of your vehicle by adding and removing springs in the brake unit.

3. No heat on the drum - Since the brake is not in the drum and not dragging when winching, there is no heat created in the drum to damage the rope.

Note that to get these benefits, You will need an air source. A small compressor like the ones that are used for Air Lockers is plenty. In addition, since air is required for this incredible braking system, the freespool is also activated by air.

There is also a major difference in the air freespool and the air drum disconnect. Air freespool still takes a fair amount of effort to pull the rope just like a conventional freespool lever. The drum disconnect is just that. Fully disconnect the drum from the gear set which means no effort is needed to pull the rope. This is where the Hornet 2 and King Cobra stand alone.
